About the destination: Discovering Telchac Puerto: A Hidden Gem on the Yucatán Coast Nestled along the northern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, Telchac Puerto is a tranquil fishing village that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and relaxed seaside charm. Far from the bustling tourist hubs, this serene destination invites travelers to unwind and immerse themselves in the authentic Mexican coastal lifestyle. With its pristine beaches, warm turquoise waters, and friendly locals, Telchac Puerto is an ideal retreat for those seeking a peaceful escape. One of the main attractions of Telchac Puerto is its stunning coastline. The soft, white sandy beaches are perfect for sunbathing, leisurely strolls, and beachcombing. The calm, shallow waters make it an excellent spot for swimming and wading, especially for families with young children. Just offshore, the clear waters are teeming with marine life, making it a fantastic location for snorkeling and fishing. For a unique experience, consider visiting during the summer months when you can witness the nesting of sea turtles along the shores. Apart from its natural allure, Telchac Puerto is rich in cultural and historical significance. The town is home to several charming landmarks, including the 19th-century lighthouse that stands as a sentinel over the harbor. Stroll through the quiet streets and you’ll find colorful houses, local markets, and friendly vendors offering fresh seafood and traditional Yucatecan dishes. Don’t miss the opportunity to try "ceviche," a local favorite made from freshly caught fish marinated in lime juice and mixed with diced onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. A short drive from Telchac Puerto, you can explore the fascinating archaeological sites and cenotes that the region is famous for. The nearby Mayan ruins of Xcambó offer a glimpse into ancient civilizations, with well-preserved structures and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. For a refreshing change of pace, visit the cenotes—natural freshwater sinkholes—where you can swim in crystal-clear waters surrounded by lush vegetation. Whether you're an adventurer, history enthusiast, or simply seeking a serene getaway, Telchac Puerto promises a memorable and enriching travel experience.

About the destination: Mérida is the capital of the Mexican state of Yucatan. Mérida is a fascinating and festive city with a very distinct Spanish colonial influence. Mérida is a very atmospheric town, especially on weekends when the central streets are closed off and there is music and dancing in the main square. The whole city seems to move downtown to celebrate. It is also a good base to explore the Yucatan Peninsula. From Mérida you can visit Mayan ruins and museums, haciendas, cenotes, and a great variety of Catholic churches.Mérida was founded by Spanish conquistadors in 1542. They conquered the existing Mayan town, dismantled the pyramids and used the stones to build the Cathedral of San Idelfonso. The site of one pyramid is now Mérida's main town square. This town square or Plaza is now ringed by this cathedral as well as the town hall, the governor's palace and the Casa de Montejo, the former home of the conqueror of Yucatan. Stroll down Paseo Montejo to admire restored Spanish and French colonial mansions.Mérida is an interesting mix of amazing culture and history, tasty food, endless cultural activities and exciting attractions. Mérida is the cultural capital of the Yucatan and its beating urban heart.
